There are a number of great mobile broadband suppliers in the UK and Three has become one of the most popular in recent years. Allowing you to connect to the internet no matter where you are, it’s range of plans has something to suit everyone. It was actually the first company to offer MiFi, a type of wireless mobile broadband. More about this and the company’s other broadband products can be found in the useful guide below.
Things to be aware of
Three broadband is actually a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa. It was founded in 2003 as the first commercial video network in the UK. Using its own network infrastructure, the company supplies 3G and most recently, 4G Wi-Fi connections.
In December 2007, the company entered a 50/50 joint venture with T-Mobile known as the Mobile Broadband Network Limited. This combined the 3G networks of both companies, increasing its reach across the country. By November 2010, the network managed to obtain a total of 12,000 sites.
A YouGov survey in 2010 revealed Three was voted as the Best Network in terms of Mobile Broad for two consecutive years.
What options are available?
So now you know a little more about the history of Three mobile broadband, what exactly does it have to offer? At the moment there are three main deals available. These include:
- Three Mobile Personal WiFi
- Three Mobile Highest Usage
- Three Mobile Dongles
All of the plans come with a 24-month contract, so this is slightly longer than some of its competitors. The personal WiFi plan is ideal for those who only want to check emails and carry out occasional web searches. Offering 1GB usage allowance, it enables you to connect up to 5 different devices.
The highest usage plan increases the allowance to 20GB, making it a good option for those who like to watch videos, download and regularly browse the internet via their mobile while they are travelling.
Finally, the dongles offer 1GB usage allowance and are one of the most affordable options. There are two types of dongles available and they are particularly great for Pay As You Go customers who don’t rely heavily upon the internet while they’re travelling.
Features and benefits
There’s a reason Three has become so popular in the mobile sector. Firstly, it offers a fantastic 97% coverage across the UK. It is also one of the few providers which offers unlimited data plans for those who heavily rely upon the internet while out and about.
All of the packages available come 4G ready. If you have a 4G handset, it will automatically connect to Three’s 4G network when available at no extra cost. If you’re using a dongle, you’ll also benefit from double speed connectivity thanks to dual channel advanced 3G.
Dongles are available at £8 per month for a 1GB usage allowance. There are also Pay as You Go dongles available too. If you’re more interested in the personal WiFi option, you’ll again pay just £8 per month for the same data allowance. The highest usage plan is £22 per month and you do actually receive a free USB dongle with that plan.
