Cancelling your Sky broadband package is relatively straightforward, but do expect to be tempted to stay with them by being offered a slightly better deal. This is standard practice amongst technology suppliers, but don’t be surprised if the deal you are offered is far from earth-shattering. Sky is an incredibly popular supplier, and they do not need to slash prices to keep customers. So, how do you go about cancelling your service, and switching to a different supplier?

Customer Services

You need to contact the customer services department to get the ball rolling. You can either do this via Live Chat online, or by phoning. It is free to use the Live Chat facility, and operators are available between 8.30am to 8pm, seven days a week, making it incredibly convenient for people who work. If you are a Sky Talk customer, calls to the customer services team are absolutely free too.

If you do not have a Sky calls package, you may be charged, so check with your phone provider if this is likely to be a problem. The contact number for Sky cancellations is 03300 412 532. You can also cancel your subscription via post, or email (at mysky@sky.uk) but you will need to speak to a member of the Sky customer services at some point in order to confirm your account details. Your notice period begins when the letter, or email arrives with Sky.

Switching Broadband and Talk Services

If you intend to switch to another provider you may need to contact Sky. If you want to switch to Virgin Media’s cable services, you will certainly need to. Other suppliers will deal with the paperwork for you, so you can just apply to switch to them online or by phone. Virgin is the exception here, so make sure you get in touch if you are planning a switch, to make the process smooth and to avoid hitches.

For example, you will need to phone Sky if you are exercising a ‘right to leave’ clause that Sky have given you, so that you avoid fees for an early cancellation of contract.

Cancelling Broadband and Talk Services

To cancel your Broadband and Talk service altogether, you need to speak to Sky in person over the phone, so that they can verify your account details, run through the procedure with you, and check that you understand about the financial implications of cancelling. The aforementioned early cancellation fees are something that many customers forget about, for example, and it can come as a shock for some.

Are there Sky broadband cancellation charges?

When you signed up to Sky broadband you will have signed up on either a 12 month or 18 month contract. Cancelling during this contract period will result in a cancellation charge. However, the cancellation charge may be less than you expect.

See this guide for a reminder of what charges you may be about to incur. Sky urge people not to cancel any Direct Debit payments to Sky until detail is finalised, because there may be outstanding charges remaining on your account.
